Largest solar power project great news for Australia

The Australian Greens have welcomed news that the largest solar power project in the southern hemisphere will be constructed in rural NSW and will be partly funded by the federal government's Australian Renewable Energy Agency.

"This is not only great news for regional NSW, it is a glimpse of the innovative jobs rich future that comes from a rapid transition to 100% renewable energy. 150 jobs is just the beginning," Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

Solar panel users save everyone money: Don’t punish them

Increasing the fixed costs of electricity because of the success of solar panels punishes people for saving WA taxpayers $100,000 per megawatt, the Greens warned today.

Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam said the Barnett Government had "lost the plot on electricity pricing".

"Western Australians have rightly been encouraged to take up solar panels. Now the State Government complains that as a result they're not able to squeeze as much money out of people as they'd prefer - so they'll increase the fixed cost for electricity supply. It's beyond belief."

Greens to lower on-farm energy bills

Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne has announced a plan to lower on-farm energy bills with $100 million in grants for efficiency and infrastructure on energy-intensive farms.

"The clean technology, food and foundry grants program for food processors has been one of the success stories of the package negotiated with the Greens to tackle climate change, but it didn't go far enough," Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

"On climate change Tony Abbott is a denier, Kevin Rudd has back flipped and only the Greens can be trusted," said Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne.

"The decision to scrap the fixed carbon price is cowardly. If you believed that climate change was the greatest moral challenge of our time, and it is, you would not now be moving to have the big polluters pay less. That is what Kevin Rudd is doing. It is all about politics and not about policy.

The Australian Greens today launched a plan to create special zones to help communities become world leaders in renewable energy, put downward pressure on electricity prices and boost regional jobs and investment.

"Our Connecting Clean Energy plan will mean cleaner air, more jobs and investment in regional Australia, and big cuts to the pollution driving global warming," said Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne.
