RET threat: SA to lose $3b if renewable energy scheme scrapped

South Australia stands to lose almost $3 billion of investment if Tony Abbott dumps the Renewable Energy Target, says SA Greens Senator Penny Wright.

New figures compiled by Senator Wright show South Australia will suffer more than any other state if the popular RET is scrapped.

Greens say RET report is climate denier drivel

The Australian Greens say it's no surprise that a review led by a climate sceptic has trashed the Renewable Energy Target, saying both options the report presents will destroy renewable energy in Australia.

"I'm glad this dangerous and ignorant report is finally public, so everyone can see it for the climate denier drivel it is. The outcome was determined long ago," said Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne.

Palmer amendments will not deliver

Questioning by the Australian Greens during Senate debate today has confirmed the Abbott government cannot guarantee families will be financially better off without a price on pollution.

"Not only will households have to deal with global warming, but the $550 they now think they're getting? Forget it. It's a mirage," said Greens Leader Christine Milne.

"In the Senate today, Finance Minister Cormann couldn't answer even the most basic questions about what the legislation will do. Either he doesn't know or he doesn't care.
