That the Senate

(a) notes:

(i) the unanimous findings of the Environment and Communications References Committee report, Game on: more than playing around, The future of Australia’s video game development industry, received on 29 April 2016, and

(ii) the absence of any government response to the findings of this inquiry; and

 

(b) orders:

that there be laid on the table by the Minister for Communications, by no later than 3pm on 14 June 2017, a copy of the government response to this report.

Level Up WA: Our plan for the videogames industry

With a small smart investment from government, Western Australia could become a hub for the national video games industry, which generates more than $2 billion a year, under a Greens plan released today.

"The massive success of mobile gaming, and the emerging technology of VR, present huge opportunities for the industry, and with just a few key measures, we could see a considerable amount of that work undertaken in Western Australia," Greens Communications spokesperson and Senator for WA Scott Ludlam said today.

Greens level up* and secure inquiry into Australian video game industry

The Australian Greens have secured a Senate Inquiry into the Australian video games development industry.

The Senate supported the inquiry call, moved by Australian Greens deputy leader and communications spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam.

"Five years ago, Australia had a burgeoning video game development sector employing thousands of talented people in this rapidly growing industry.
