Labor making pain last longer than necessary

In response to statements from the Treasurer tat the Budget will see wages go backwards for another two years and paid parental leave measures will also be delayed, the Greens say the government was delaying cost of living relief while making room in the Budget for Stage 3 tax cuts for the wealthy.

“Labor is spending over a quarter of a trillion dollars on Stage 3 tax cuts for politicians and billionaires while delaying cost of living relief for everyday people,” Greens Economic Justice Spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said.

Cost of top end tax cuts surges past a quarter of a trillion dollars

Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ revelations that the cost of the Stage 3 tax cuts for CEOs, politicians and billionaires has surged over a quarter of a trillion dollars is further confirmation they should be scrapped, the Greens say.

“$254 billion is a staggering amount of money that would be far better spent putting mental and dental health into Medicare, wiping student debt and making childcare free,” Greens Economic Justice spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said.

Leader of the Australian Greens, Adam Bandt, has commended peak worker and social services groups for coming out hard against the proposed acceleration of tax cuts for millionaires, saying the money would be far better spent on job creation.

Now's not the time to drop taxes for the rich

Bringing forward personal income tax cuts in an attempt to kickstart spending is a shortsighted move of economic vandalism, Greens Leader Adam Bandt said today, warning that it will entrench economic injustice and hamper recovery efforts.

"Tax cuts will hamper the recovery, depriving the public of money needed to invest our way out of the corona crisis and the climate crisis," Greens Leader Adam Bandt MP said.
