Manus Island report reveals Dutton's neglect and lies

Amnesty International's report on the Manus Island shooting and concessions from PNG police have made clear Peter Dutton's catastrophic failure to keep people safe as well as his disgraceful dishonesty.

"The report and PNG police have made it clear that bullets were fired upon the detention centre, contrary to Dutton's claims," Greens Immigration spokesperson Nick McKim said.

"People in his care are being shot at and he has not lifted a finger to keep them safe. This is an appalling act of neglect."

Report reveals companies profiteering from torture

Amnesty International's report on the profit-making of Broadspectrum from Australia's detention centres on Nauru is a warning to companies considering bidding for contracts that they do so at considerable risk to their brand and reputation.

"Any companies who sign contracts to run the camps will immediately become complicit in torture," Greens Immigration spokesperson Senator McKim said.

Amnesty International's report demands a response

Amnesty International's Island of Despair report should force members of the government and Labor Party to publicly renounce Australia's deliberately cruel offshore detention regime.

Australian Greens Leader Richard Di Natale said the report was an indictment on successive governments. 

“This is a policy that systematically tears families apart, robs kids of any hope and deprives them of a future," Senator Di Natale said.
