Donnelly should get the boot over corporal punishment comments
The Australian Greens have reiterated calls for Kevin Donnelly to be sacked from Minister Pyne's curriculum review panel in light of his comments on corporal punishment.
Australian Greens spokesperson for Schools Senator Penny Wright said Mr Donnelly's endorsement of corporal punishment was unacceptable.
"The Australian Greens have always said Mr Donnelly's radical views made him a completely inappropriate person for such a prominent review," Senator Wright said.
"Mr Donnelly's views belong to another century. The cane or the belt should not be brought back into our classrooms.
"It's very clear Mr Pyne showed extremely poor judgment in picking Mr Donnelly. Minister Pyne should admit his mistake and ask for Mr Donnelly's resignation today.
"The Senate called for Mr Donnelly's resignation in February - it's time for Mr Pyne to take action and make it clear there is no place for violence in our schools."
Senator Wright's February motion, supported by the Senate, called for Mr Donnelly and co-reviewer Ken Wiltshire to be replaced by independent experts.
