Abbott must stand up for SA jobs and protect the RET
Australian Greens Senator for South Australia Penny Wright says Prime Minister Tony Abbott must end the uncertainty around the future of the Renewable Energy Target, as South Australia announces plans to raise its target to 50 per cent.
"The Renewable Energy Target is cutting pollution, creating jobs and will bring power bills down," Senator Wright said.
"It is fantastic to see South Australia aiming higher for a clean energy future, but this is all conditional on Tony Abbott rejecting the climate denier drivel of the Warburton review and upholding the federal Renewable Energy target.
"South Australia leads the nation in renewable energy and it is a key part of our economic future. We must not let the Abbott Government drag us backward.
"Uncertainty is already costing South Australia, so Tony Abbott needs to stand up for local jobs and smart manufacturing by binning the Warburton review."
Senator Wright said figures from the Climate Institute showed almost $3 billion of investment could be lost in South Australia if the recommendations of the Warburton review are adopted.
The Abbott Government is yet to respond to the recommendations of the Warburton review, released released late last month.
