"Protection of Word 'Anzac' Regulations" should be reviewed in light of Woolworths debacle

The Greens spokesperson for Veterans Affairs, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, welcomes the intervention by the Minister Michael Ronaldson in Woolworths’ misuse of the word Anzac, but says more needs to be done to prevent the commercialisation of the Anzac commemoration.

Senator Whish-Wilson said, “The Anzac commemoration means many things to many people, but what it should never become is a crass commercial opportunity where companies try to leverage an association for their brand.

Greens honour service of ADF in Afghanistan

The Australian Greens today join the community in honouring the service of the men and women who served in Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper and welcome them home.

"Around Australia today people have come together to say thank you to all those who put their lives on the line in Afghanistan, and to honour their service, and I join them," said Greens Leader Christine Milne.

Veterans Deserve Better

The Greens spokesperson for Veterans’ Affairs, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, provided the following comments on the ABC’s Four Corners episode, “Bringing the War Home,” by Quentin McDermott and Mary Fallon into the lack of support for returning veterans.

Senator Whish-Wilson said, “We send these men and women off to fight wars on our behalf and yet we don’t do enough to help them cope with the horrors they faced during their service once they return.

PM’s aggression dangerous for the nation - Milne

Reports that Prime Minister Tony Abbott sought to unilaterally engage 3,500 Australian troops in a ground offensive in Iraq are a frightening insight into a leader whose solution to everything is more aggression. We urgently need to give the whole of parliament the final say on going to war, says Greens Leader Christine Milne.

"No one in their right mind would suggest something as reckless as Australia launching a unilateral ground invasion of Iraq, but reports suggest that our Prime Minister did just that," Greens Leader Christine Milne said.
