Victorian First: The Greens Announce First Nations Senate Ticket

For the first time in Victorian history, a First Nations Senator is bringing an entirely Aboriginal Senate Ticket to a federal election. Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe, a Gunnai, Gunditjmara and DjabWurrung woman, will be backed by First Nations activists and community leaders.

Morrison, Andrews have dropped ball on Yallourn

The Greens have responded to the early closure of Yallourn by 2028 by slamming the Federal and State governments’ refusal to legislate a clear timetable for all coal closures by 2030 and establish proper transition authorities, saying Liberal and Labor’s unwillingness to plan a coal phase-out has left workers and communities in the lurch.

For too long, the state and federal governments have taken a backseat with the coal power station’s impending closure, despite years of advocacy from the Greens and environmental groups calling for a planned transition.

Federal Government must lift VIC childcare support & move to free childcare

Greens Leader, Adam Bandt, says a return to free childcare is needed in Victoria immediately and that the success of the initial COVID-19 childcare package has shown Australian families that it is possible and desirable to pursue free childcare for good.

“Even though the restrictions in Victoria are now harsher, the childcare support from the Federal government is now weaker,” Bandt said.

“In the middle of a pandemic, the government has tried to reinvent the wheel and thrown parents, workers and the industry into unnecessary confusion.”

Public Housing health response should be led by care, not force

The Greens have today said the Andrews State Government’s unprecedented lockdown of social housing blocks had created appalling outcomes for tenants, urging the government to consider a ‘care first’ response instead of the forceful response exercised so far.

State and Federal members for Melbourne, Ellen Sandell MP and Adam Bandt MP also said the state government’s long term neglect of public housing facilities was a contributor to the harsh response.

Greens launch TV advertisement and Victorian Greens campaign

Supporters joined Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne, Deputy Leader Adam Bandt, Lead Senate Candidate Janet Rice and other candidates at Melbourne's Victorian Arts Centre to launch the Victorian Greens election campaign today.

Senator Milne outlined how the Greens were on track to secure a second Victorian Senate spot and retain Adam Bandt's seat of Melbourne.

The Greens also unveiled their first TV election advertisement ‘Standing up for What Matters'. It can be viewed here.
