Abbott's Budget has no vision for SA

The 2015 Budget has no vision for the future of South Australia, say SA's Australian Greens Senators.

Senator Penny Wright said the Government was continuing to protect big business at the expense of everyday South Australians.

"The Abbott Government has absolutely no vision for South Australia's future. Rather than finding new sources of revenue from the big end of town, this Budget cuts one vital service to fund another," Senator Wright said.

Abbott needs to do more on paid parental leave

Any Abbott government paid parental leave scheme must be fully funded by big business, the Australian Greens said today.

Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne said big questions remained over the funding of the scheme as proposed by Tony Abbott.

"Any scheme needs to be fair, affordable and legislated as a workplace right. The scheme would also need to be fully funded by big business, not budget cuts," Senator Milne said.

Protecting new mothers' rights at work

The Australian Greens have said that it’s time for the Labor Party to get serious about parental leave, making it an enforceable workplace entitlement with proper pay.

“If we acknowledge that pregnant women need more rights at work, including time off, then we should go all the way and legislate to make adequate leave a workplace entitlement with pay,” the Greens youth and childcare spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said today.
