Lee and Jeremy Buckingham join Greens Leader Christine Milne in Orange on first stop of listening tour

Lee Rhiannon is joining Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne and NSW Greens MP and former Orange City Councillor Jeremy Buckingham in Orange on Wednesday 18 April.

Senator Milne will begin her promised listening tour of regional Australia with a visit to orchardists and graziers around Orange.

Airport cap should stay, new airport built and Sydney Airport closed

 The Federal Transport Minister needs to put in place a process to identify a site to relocate Sydney Airport outside of the Sydney Basin linked by High Speed Rail, and in the meantime the cap on aircraft movements at Sydney Airport should stay, with the noise burden on many residents already unacceptable, Greens Senator for NSW Lee Rhiannon said today. Sydney Airport solution - relocation plus High Speed Rail

Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon has called on the NSW and federal governments to back the relocation of Sydney Airport and to work together to identify a replacement airport site outside the Sydney Basin taking into account stringent social and environmental criteria.

"The public does not want another round of federal and state bickering over a second Sydney airport," Senator Rhiannon said.

"There is an increasing international trend for airports to be moved out of built up areas. Athens, Oslo and Hong Kong have opted for relocation and recorded positive benefits.

Greens' days of Denticare action

Greens Senator for NSW Lee Rhiannon and South Sydney Greens Convenor Dr Mehreen Faruqi collected petition signatures and distributed leaflets to build support Denticare being funded in this May's Budget. The Greens have nominated 28-30 March as Denticare days of action across Australia.

Greens Senator for NSW Lee Rhiannon said, "Everyone should be able to afford to visit the dentist, but the reality is that one third of Australians say they can't afford to go or delay going because of the expense.

The climate threats facing our planet and its people are being accelerated by the relentless expansion of coal mining and coal exports in Australia. We have seen in the news the horrifying scale of the new coal export terminal in Queensland that will export climate change to the world and threatens the Great Barrier Reef.
