MySchool misses mark on school assessment

A new report released today highlights the failings of the Federal Government's MySchool site and backs the evidence given to a parliamentary inquiry initiated by Australian Greens spokesperson for Schools, Senator Penny Wright.

The overwhelming majority of submissions to the Senate Inquiry into NAPLAN testing criticised the MySchool site as an inaccurate measure of school performance and success.

More time needed for NAPLAN report card

An Australian Greens parliamentary inquiry into NAPLAN testing will be reconvened after the election to give more time to examine evidence.

Australian Greens spokesperson for schools Senator Penny Wright said today the inquiry had been overwhelmed with the magnitude of community concern about the standardised tests.

"My inquiry has heard extensive evidence these tests are causing high levels of stress in students and teachers and increasing 'teaching to the test'," Senator Wright said.

Greens secure NAPLAN inquiry

The Australian Greens have secured a Senate inquiry into NAPLAN testing to examine widespread concern the tests are having unintended consequences on teaching and student learning.

Australian Greens spokesperson for Schools, Senator Penny Wright, said marketers were seizing on the stress created by high-stakes testing.

"NAPLAN should be about maths, not marketing. It should be about literacy, not an industry," Senator Wright said.

"NAPLAN was intended to provide important information on student performance and highlight students most in need of help.
