Coalition refuses to drop plan to privatise ABC

The Coalition today refused to rule out selling the ABC, voting against a Greens motion reaffirming the Parliament's commitment to keeping the broadcaster in public hands.

"Today the Greens tested the Coalition's real intentions, and it turned out Malcolm Turnbull's fine words are as useful as a non-core promise," said Greens communications spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam.

PRISM surveillance in Australia: Government confirms it couldn't care less

The Australian Government has indicated breathtaking complacency in answer to Senator Scott Ludlam's Senate question today about the PRISM surveillance program.

"A warrantless surveillance system that grants real-time Government access to emails, audio and video chats, photographs, documents, connection logs and location data, to potentially the entire Australians population, and today the Government shrugged it off as business-as-usual."
