Budget: Government’s transport infrastructure locks in pollution to worsen the climate crisis

Greens Transport and Infrastructure spokesperson Senator Janet Rice has condemned the Morrison government for failing to invest in a green recovery that would create new jobs and build the foundations of a fair, clean economy. 

Instead, the Morrison government is doubling down on transport infrastructure that locks in pollution, props up fossil fuel corporations and will make the climate crisis even worse.

Govt rejects Senate Inquiry recommendations to improve transparency in operation of Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF)

The Australian Government has rejected key recommendations of the Senate Inquiry into the governance and operation of the Northern Australian Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) aimed at improving transparency and avoiding conflicts of interest.

Greens Co-deputy leader and Senator for Queensland Larissa Waters said the Morrison Government had rejected the evidence in favour of continuing with a politically motived waste of taxpayers’ money designed to funnel community resources into projects like Adani.

Infrastructure spending will help stop the housing bubble

Australian Greens Treasury spokesperson, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, today responded to comments by the Reserve Bank Governor and the IMF regarding infrastructure and housing.

Federal Government needs to pitch in for Tasmania's water infrastructure needs

Greens spokesperson for Finance, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, today called on Tasmanian Liberal Senators to provide federal assistance for TasWater’s infrastructure upgrade program.

Senator Whish-Wilson said, “At a time when critical local infrastructure upgrades are needed, like those identified by TasWater, the federal government is proposing to cut payments to the states. The budget shows payments to the states are set to fall from $9 billion to $4 billion over the next four years.
