The Australian Greens said today that the Government has no choice other than to abandon plans for a healthy welfare card, with a key income management evaluation showing the scheme has been a comprehensive and expensive failure.

"The Government has at last released the Evaluation of New Income Management in the Northern Territory final report, which as expected shows that this wasteful and expensive regime has failed to deliver on its objectives," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues said today.

The Australian Greens said today the Government was defying the will of the Senate by refusing to comply with an order for the production of documents and table a crucial evaluation of income management.

"The Government is clearly considering an extension of income management through the healthy welfare card, but they are refusing to release the Evaluating new income management in the Northern Territory final report, despite a Senate order for production of documents," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on family and community services said today.

The Australian Greens have called on the Government to immediately back down from plans to implement a healthy welfare card, with the Evaluating New Income Management in the Northern Territory report showing the regime has failed to meet its objectives.

The Australian Greens said today that Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and alcohol related harm need to be addressed through community driven, holistic approaches, that include addressing their underlying causes, rather than a further crackdown on income support.

The Australian Greens have called on the Federal Government to abandon income management, as an ABC investigation highlights long-standing flaws in the scheme.

"Income management is a misguided regime which is not supported by evidence. This investigation reinforces the fact it is a flawed approach," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on family and community services said today.

The Australian Greens are dismayed that National Landcare program has been targeted for a 50% cut in the Commission of Audit report.

"A 50% cut in funding will put important Landcare, natural resource management, environmental programs and jobs at risk and comes as the movement celebrates the 25th anniversary of Landcare " Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens agriculture spokesperson said today.

The Australian Greens say Anglicare's Australia Rental Affordability Snapshot demonstrates the urgent need for an increase in income support payments such as Newstart Allowance.

"The snapshot clearly demonstrates that people on low incomes like income support payments are unable to afford rentals in Australia
