The Coalition's schools funding policies are increasing inequality

I move that the Senate-

(a) notes recent analysis by Mr Chris Bonnor and Mr Bernie Shepherd, which demonstrated that inequality between the most advantaged and disadvantaged schools has grown since the Gonski Review was completed in 2011;

(b) recognises the Commonwealth Government's decision to proceed with only the first 4 years of the Gonski school funding arrangements falls far short of the investment needed to reverse systemic disadvantage and deepening inequality; and

Federal Nationals MPs opposed a motion supporting the New South Wales Nationals Annual General Conference vote in favour of the full six years of Gonski funding.

Tony Abbott's broken promises on the Gonski school funding agreements will disadvantage every Australian student, a Senate Inquiry has found.

Australian Greens spokesperson on schools and deputy chair of the Senate Select Committee into Schools Funding Senator Penny Wright said the committee recommended the Government re-introduce the fifth and sixth years of funding to address inequality across Australian schools.

The Australian Greens have called on federal National MPs join the NSW branch in publically advocating for the full six years of Gonski funding.

Australian Greens spokesperson for schools Senator Penny Wright commended NSW Education Minister and National Party member Adrian Piccoli for his speech in support of the full Gonski funding at the NSW Nationals conference.

"As Mr Piccoli says, funding the full six years of Gonski will benefit country schools the most," Senator Wright said.
