Government must act to stop another Stolen Generation: Greens

News today that Australia is heading towards Aboriginal out of home care rates similar to the assimilation era must jolt the Government into action, Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert said today.

Senate calls on Government to guarantee funding for Family and Early Learning Centres

The Australian Greens have called on the Federal Government to guarantee funding for Family and Early Learning Centres after the Senate today supported a motion moved by Senator Rachel Siewert, recognising the essential services they provide to communities.

"Funding for Family and Early Learning Centres ceased with the expiry of the Council of Australian Governments' National Partnership Agreement on Indigenous Early Childhood Development on 30 June 2014," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues said today.

Budget cuts to undermine Kimberley health programs

The Australian Greens have expressed concern over the future of Aboriginal health programs in the Kimberley, saying the federal budget is a huge setback to commitments to close the gap.

"Tony Abbott's budget has taken away $534 million as he consolidates 150 programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into five. This includes a significant cut of $165.8 in of health programs," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues said today.

Greens call for government cooperation as NACCHO outlines ten point plan for enhancing Closing the Gap efforts

The Australian Greens have today welcomed the release of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation's (NACCHO) ten point plan for enhancing the work being done to close the gap in health and life expectancy rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and called on the states and territories to urgently renew the National Partnership on Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health.
