The Australian Greens have welcomed a report in The Lancet medical journal, which highlights the huge opportunity to improve public health through action on global warming.

"Cutting pollution won't just maintain the status quo - it will make our entire population more healthy, which means more productive and more prosperous," said Greens Leader Dr Richard Di Natale.

"People get overwhelmed by the climate change doomsday scenarios, but we need pay more attention to all the ways we can make life better if we do cut pollution.

The 2015 Budget has no vision for the future of South Australia, say SA's Australian Greens Senators.

Senator Penny Wright said the Government was continuing to protect big business at the expense of everyday South Australians.

"The Abbott Government has absolutely no vision for South Australia's future. Rather than finding new sources of revenue from the big end of town, this Budget cuts one vital service to fund another," Senator Wright said.

In a speech to the Sydney Environment Institute at Sydney University last night, Greens Leader Christine Milne has announced the party's new post-2020 targets for pollution reduction, saying much greater ambition is required to tackle global warming and help transition the economy.

"The big polluters are polluting for free, and the rest of us are paying the price. It doesn't have to be that way," Greens Leader Christine Milne said.

The new climate agreements signed by the Adelaide City Council and State Governments have left the Abbott Government marooned, says Australian Greens Senator for SA Penny Wright.

"The Abbott Government's determination to destroy the renewable energy target is an international embarrassment and risks local jobs here in SA," Senator Wright said.

Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne says international pressure is mounting on the Abbott government ahead of UN climate talks in Paris.

"It's no surprise that the rest of the world is appalled by the Abbott government's refusal to adopt meaningful global warming policy," said Senator Milne.

"Australia may stand alone and humiliated, but even worse is that Tony Abbott's global warming policy protects the profits of the big polluters now at the expense of a safe climate for our children and grandchildren.

"It is intergenerational theft on an obscene scale."

Greens Leader Christine Milne says the Abbott government has been further humiliated on global warming by World Bank chief Jim Yong Kim.

"Tony Abbott's dismissal of a price on pollution as some kind of extreme ideological tax that harms the economy has been exposed," Greens Leader Christine Milne said.

"Australia stands alone and humiliated on global warming policy.

The Australian Greens have called for an increased commitment to renewable energy from all levels of government in light of Alinta Energy's determination that a solar thermal plant in Port Augusta remains unfeasible at this stage.

Australian Greens Senator for South Australia Senator Penny Wright said South Australians overwhelmingly wanted renewable energy to replace dirty coal power.

"The future is renewable - there is no doubt about that," Senator Wright said. "It's time for all governments to step up and take the leader to make solar thermal happen at Port Augusta."
