Climate wrecker title looms for Turnbull as draft Paris agreement released

With the release of the draft agreement for the Paris climate talks today, Malcolm Turnbull needs to boost our climate pollution reduction targets or else go down in history as a climate wrecker.

Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate spokesperson, said:  

"Malcolm Turnbull needs to go to Paris with targets based on science not Tony Abbott's targets based on climate denialism.  

"Malcolm Turnbull says he won't change Tony Abbott's targets and he has signed a deal with the Nationals to keep Australia's targets stuck in the past.

The Abbott government's decision to stop the Clean Energy Finance Corporation investing in rooftop solar will hurt Australians who are trying to make ends meet, said Greens Deputy Leader Larissa Waters.

"Tony Abbott is making life harder for everyday Australians, suffocating innovative new businesses, and handcuffing this country to the coal age," Senator Waters said.

"The CEFC helps rooftop solar companies offer free installation of solar panels, which means retirees and low-income families can start saving immediately. Well, not anymore.

Healthy climate means healthy economy: Greens welcome Climate Roundtable

Greens Leader Richard Di Natale has welcomed the formation of the Australian Climate Roundtable, commending the business community for recognising the gains to be had in transitioning to a low-pollution economy.

"The drive to cut pollution is the new heartbeat of the economy. It's a huge opportunity to create jobs, attract investment and build up new industries, but we're on the cusp of missing it," Senator Di Natale said.
