Petrol tax reveals Abbott’s new three word slogan: Stuff you, mate

Responding to reports Tony Abbott is planning to make petrol more expensive, Acting Greens Leader, Adam Bandt, said Tony Abbott's refusal to end fuel subsidies for wealthy miners proved the Coalition was siding with big business against everyday Australians.

"Tony Abbott's plan is for people to keep forking out billions each year just so the likes of Gina Rinehart can buy cheap diesel," said Mr Bandt.

"By making people pay more for petrol and GP visits while giving wealthy miners subsidised fuel, Tony Abbott has revealed his new three word slogan: ‘Stuff you, mate'.

Landcare funding shouldn't be cut

The Australian Greens are dismayed that National Landcare program has been targeted for a 50% cut in the Commission of Audit report.

"A 50% cut in funding will put important Landcare, natural resource management, environmental programs and jobs at risk and comes as the movement celebrates the 25th anniversary of Landcare " Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens agriculture spokesperson said today.

Abbott needs to do more on paid parental leave

Any Abbott government paid parental leave scheme must be fully funded by big business, the Australian Greens said today.

Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne said big questions remained over the funding of the scheme as proposed by Tony Abbott.

"Any scheme needs to be fair, affordable and legislated as a workplace right. The scheme would also need to be fully funded by big business, not budget cuts," Senator Milne said.

An Abbott budget would heap stress on our poorest people

The Australian Greens said today that some of the poorest people in our community will be placed under even more financial stress if Tony Abbotts's budget becomes a reality.
