Time is ticking for the government and opposition to adopt science-based 2030 targets, with an upcoming US-led climate summit to be held before ANZAC Day next year, setting a deadline for Liberal and Labor on climate.
 
President-Elect Joe Biden has set the deadline, with his commitment to hold a climate summit within 100 days after he takes office, in which he will call upon major emitters to join the United States in increasing ambition. President-Elect Biden and the Prime Minister have spoken yesterday.
 

Greens Leader Adam Bandt says the Greens will back a new climate bill from the crossbench, but that stronger action by 2030 is needed and that the climate debate is now all about the 2030 targets.
 
“With Donald Trump gone, a big blocker to global climate action has been removed,” Bandt said.
 
“When Scott Morrison fronts next year’s climate summit, where countries are expected to lift their 2030 targets, there will be nowhere left to hide. 
 
“Kevin Rudd, on Insiders, rightly pointed out that Liberal and Labor need to do better on 2030 targets. 

Greens Leader Adam Bandt has condemned the outright assault on American democracy launched by Donald Trump as he attempts to undermine the vote which seems likely to elect Joe Biden.
 
Bandt has called on Scott Morrison to condemn Donald Trump’s claim of victory and his baseless claim of voter fraud, as well as making clear Australia’s position in support of democracy and of counting all votes. 

Bandt also said a climate test now looms for Liberal and Labor.
