Senator Ludlam asked the Minister representing the Minister for the Environment, in writing, on 18 March 2014:

With reference to the instances where industrial pollution at the Burrup Peninsula (the Peninsula) shows up as rain and cloud cover on Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) radars:

(1) Will the Department urgently undertake research on the impact of industrial pollution on the Peninsula and how often the BOM radar is recording such pollution as either rain or cloud cover on clear days.

Air Pollution and Health

Air pollution is linked to health problems like chest pain, coughing, and breathing difficulties. It triggers asthma attacks, and it can lead to irreversible lung damage and exacerbates conditions like bronchitis and emphysema.

The Greens have established a Senate inquiry into the impacts of air quality on health in Australia.

The Inquiry held hearings in Newcastle on 16 April and the Greens are pushing for hearings in other regions affected by air pollution.
