Estimates confirms findings of red tape report, as major Departments refuse charities passport

The Australian Greens said today that Senate Estimates had confirmed reports that the majority of red tape faced by Australia's not for profit sector is caused by the Government itself.

"The Federal Government tries to paint the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission as a burden on the sector, but the clear reality is that Government grants acquittal processes cause the most red tape," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on family and community services said today.

Greens reject calls to abolish ACNC

The Australian Greens said today the Government is undermining the effectiveness and capacity of our not-for-profit sector at a time when it faces growing pressure as a result of budget cuts to welfare and social security.

The Greens have tabled a dissenting report into the bill repealing the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission.

Government disregard for not-for-profits grows, as moves to repeal the ACNC get under way

The Australian Greens say the Government is showing continuing disregard for the not-for-profit sector, commencing action to repeal the ACNC.

"The ACNC's purpose is to ensure more transparency and accountability of the not-for-profit sector and yet the Government is committed to abolishing it," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on families and community services said today.
