Greens climate change spokesperson Adam Bandt MP has today called on Energy and Emissions Reduction Minister Angus Taylor to do his job, end the war on renewables and extend the Renewable Energy Target (RET) to cut pollution and lower power bills. 
 
"If Angus Taylor wants to do his job and cut emissions, he needs to extend the RET," said Mr Bandt. 
 
"Australia's energy sector is facing a valley of death from the coming investment strike.

Greens climate change spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, has today responded to the latest Australian Season Bushfire Outlook highlighting above normal fire potential for regions across the country, warning that Scott Morrison bears some responsibility for the upcoming bushfire season.
 
“Scott Morrison has done everything in his power to make global warming worse and now we’re seeing the consequences of a heated planet,” said Mr Bandt.
 
“We’ve just been warned that record drought has delivered the driest ever January to July for the southern half of Australia.
 

Greens climate change spokesperson Adam Bandt MP, today called on the government to rule out privatisation of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), which Scott Morrison has called the ‘world’s most successful green bank’, warning it would leave the government without even a fig-leaf of a climate change policy.
 
“Just last week, Scott Morrison was boasting to Pacific Island leaders about the importance of the ‘world’s most successful green bank’ to the government’s climate policy, yet now there’s discussion about selling it off,” said Mr Bandt.
 

Greens climate spokesperson, Adam Bandt, said that when the Prime Minister attends the G7 summit this weekend, the first time Australia has participated, he must back French President, Emmanuel Macron’s, demands for the Amazon fires to be recognised as an international crisis and made a top priority of the G7 meeting.
 
“Scott Morrison must back Macron’s call for the world to act on the Amazon climate emergency ,” said Mr Bandt.
 

Greens climate change and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, has responded to the final communique from the Pacific Island Forum, warning Scott Morrison that his bully-boy act of giving the Pacific the coal shoulder won’t work when Australia fronts the UN global climate summit in New York next month.
 
“Prime Minister Scott Morrison may have shouldered coal off the Pacific Islands’ Forum agenda, but his bully boy tactics won’t work on the world stage,” said Mr Bandt.
 
“Scott Morrison has demonstrated that he is the biggest enemy the Pacific has ever had.
 

The Prime Minister is an enemy of the Pacific, said Australian Greens climate and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, ahead of the upcoming meeting of leaders at the Pacific Islands Forum in Tuvalu.
 
“The Prime Minister feigns friendship, but his expansion of coal mining makes him the biggest enemy the Pacific has ever had,” said Mr Bandt.
 
“Pacific Island leaders are pleading with Australia to get out of coal, but the Prime Minister is giving them the middle finger. 
 

Following Energy Minister Angus Taylor’s announcement of a taskforce to consider propping up the Liddell coal-fired power station, Greens climate change and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, has vowed the Greens will block any public money being used to keep the coal-fired power station open longer. The station is scheduled for closure in 2022/23, but Minister Taylor this morning refused to rule out using public money to support Liddell and keep it open longer.
 
“The coal-loving bullies in the government are slowing down the transition to renewables,” said Mr Bandt.

Australian Greens climate change and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt, responded today to the push from Federal Energy Minister, Angus Taylor, for Victoria to lift its onshore gas moratorium, saying more gas won’t fix Australia’s energy problems and will make climate change worse.
 
“While renewables are pulling electricity costs down, gas is driving costs up,”  said Mr Bandt.
 
“Lifting the fracking ban in Victoria will just see more gas sold offshore to the highest bidder while making global warming worse.”
 

Greens energy spokesperson Adam Bandt has responded to the announcement that Australia is looking to access millions of barrels of oil from the United States’ Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
 
“If we want to take real action on fuel security, we need to look past fossil fuels and instead get serious about embracing electric vehicles,” said Mr Bandt.
 
“Instead of acting to drive the shift to electric vehicles, the government spent the last election running a scare campaign.”
