Speech: Matter of Public Importance - NSW Koala Population

Koalas in New South Wales face extinction by 2050. This is the harsh reality that we are grappling with today. This is no accident. It is due to the continued, insistent effort of the New South Wales Liberal-National government in pushing these species to the brink through badly planned infrastructure, through logging of native forests and through their ecocidal land-clearing laws. This is a matter of public importance because we are losing an iconic species, and we know exactly why that is happening.

Greens-led Live Exports Ban Bill Passes Federal Senate - Morrison Must Support an end to the “Trade in Misery”

A Greens bill that would ban live sheep exports has passed the Australian Senate. Senator Faruqi is calling on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to allow the bill to be debated with a free vote in the House of Representatives. The bill was co-sponsored by the Greens, Senator Derryn Hinch and Senator Tim Storer.

This cannot be ignored. We must answer their call.

South Australians to protest cruel live animal export today

The live animal export trade is a barbaric practice that must end despite Liberal National Government infighting over the issue, Australian Greens trade spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“This morning Agriculture Minister David Littleproud criticised Sussan Ley of being ‘emotional’ in  her response to live exports – I bet he wouldn’t have said that if she were a Liberal man,” Senator Hanson-Young said.
