The WA Opposition agree, but will the Barnett Government see the light?

Greens Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam has called on the Barnett Government to release its long over-due public transport plan, while welcoming the State Opposition's support for light rail in Perth.

"Light rail should be a component of the State Government's 20-year public transport plan - but where is it?" said Senator Ludlam. "The 20-year plan is six months overdue, and apparently went to State Cabinet over a month ago."

The Opposition has suggested a light rail line between West and East Perth, with six kilometres of light rail from the Causeway to Thomas Street. The Greens have produced a detailed whole-city plan including services across the metro area. Senator Ludlam spoke at a national conference on light rail in Sydney last week.

"Light rail will ease congestion, transform our city and cut carbon emissions."

"It is time for the Western Australian Government to catch up to the rest of the country and make a substantial investment in public transport."
