As the Prime Minister continues his climate denial tour of the planet, Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne says he's only telling half the story.
"When Tony Abbott says Australia is open for business, jobs and prosperity, he means prosperity for his big-business mates. Tony Abbott's Australia is not open to the clever, 21st century jobs of the clean, low carbon economy," Senator Milne said.
"Mr Abbott is trying to lure people to invest in the stranded assets that Australia will be littered with if his government continues to back fossil fuels at the expense of renewable energy, low carbon technology and the best brains at our universities.
"The Abbott government is abandoning action on climate change, research and development, and basic support for people in the name of a fake budget emergency, but a new report launched at Parliament House today by former Liberal leader John Hewson shows the benefits of economic growth are flowing disproportionately to the rich.
"This phoney budget emergency is nothing but an excuse to justify brutal cuts to those already doing it tough, so Tony Abbott can deliver more prosperity to his mates at the big end of town," said Senator Milne.
"While in the US, Mr Abbott says he might not have time to meet with the president of the International Monetary Fund to talk about the real impacts of climate change and what that might do to the economy, but he's found time today to dine with his puppet master, Rupert Murdoch.
"This Prime Minister is betraying Australians by ignoring the real emergency that is climate change. I hope President Obama tells Tony Abbott to stop his climate denial nonsense and makes it clear that the G20 agenda must include addressing climate change, or it won't be a credible meeting worth attending."
