Australian Greens health spokesperson, Dr Richard Di Natale, has been very concerned about the health impacts of air pollution from the coal mine fire on the residents of Morwell.
Richard has been calling for the state and federal governments to show greater leadership in protecting the health of local residents.
Dr Richard Di Natale is a former GP and he has led a Senate Inquiry into the health impacts of poor air quality so he was immediately concerned for the people of Morwell when the coal mine caught fire. On February 23, Richard joined the Victorian Greens Leader, Greg Barber, to call for the situation in Morwell to be declared a state of emergency and for vulnerable people to be assisted to relocate.
Senator Di Natale has also been concerned that the Morwell community was not getting a frank assesment of the health risks they are facing.
On March 3 questioned the Federal Government about assistance for the town of Morwell and then spoke to the chamber about his concerns for the residents.
