The Australian Greens have called on federal National MPs join the NSW branch in publically advocating for the full six years of Gonski funding.
Australian Greens spokesperson for schools Senator Penny Wright commended NSW Education Minister and National Party member Adrian Piccoli for his speech in support of the full Gonski funding at the NSW Nationals conference.
"As Mr Piccoli says, funding the full six years of Gonski will benefit country schools the most," Senator Wright said.
"By keeping silent, the National Party's federal MPs are selling out their communities.
"It's time they took a stand to fight for the country Australians they say they represent by supporting a more equitable schools system so kids from the bush aren't missing out.
"The Coalition's cut back to a four-year deal means country schools will miss out on up to two-thirds of the money they would have got under a six-year scheme.
"The National Party owes it to country school children to stand up to Tony Abbott and fight for their futures."
