Australian Greens Deputy Leader and science and research spokesperson Adam Bandt backed calls by health and medical researchers today to ‘boost research spending and revolutionise the way funds are allocated.’
“Science and research are the key to innovation and a strong, clean economy,” Mr Bandt said.
“Thousands of jobs in Melbourne depend on secure, long-term funding for science and research.”
“Science needs secure funding to protect jobs and set up Australia’s economy for when the mining boom is over.”
“We’ve got good brains spending too much time worrying about grants when they should be focused on life saving discoveries.”
“Australia is a world leader in medical research but we risk falling behind if we don’t increase funding and improve the way we distribute those dollars,” said Australian Greens health spokesperson, Dr Richard Di Natale.
“The focus on building a stronger connection between medical research and delivering health-care services means that all Australians will benefit from this investment.”
