Inquiry into Commission of Audit heads to WA

Media Release
Scott Ludlam 27 Mar 2014

Australian Greens Senator and Chair of the Senate Inquiry into the Commission of Audit, Dr Richard Di Natale, announced today that his Senate Committee will hold a hearing in Perth next Tuesday.

“Forget budgie smugglers, Mr Abbott is starting to look like a budget smuggler,” said Senator Di Natale.

“The Commission of Audit’s first report must contain some explosive recommendations for brutal cuts in the budget. Why else would Tony Abbott be so determined to keep West Australians in the dark before they vote?

“The Abbott Government picked the players and wrote the rules to get the outcome he wants. The process was rigged from the start.

“The Prime Minister has failed to honour his promise of an open and transparent government, so we are trying to shine a light on his plans.

“The Greens Senate Committee into the Commission of Audit process is injecting some transparency and highlighting the impact of potential budget cuts.

“Next week my committee will be heading to Perth so that we can hear from local stakeholders about the likely impacts of potential cuts.”

Senator for West Australia, Scott Ludlam welcomed the committee hearing in West Australia.

“I’m pleased that we will have an opportunity to consider the potential impacts that budget cuts will have on West Australia,” said Senator Ludlam.

“West Australians will decide whether Tony Abbott gets complete control of the parliament so they deserve to understand what he has in store.”
