Modelling confirms NEG sabotages renewables

Greens climate change and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today said that the latest modelling for the proposed ‘National Energy Guarantee’ confirms that the NEG sabotages investment in renewables.

“This modelling shows that the ‘NEG’ would come in like a wrecking ball to smash investment in renewables,” said Mr Bandt.

“According to the modelling, the NEG will only add an extra 1% of renewable capacity to 2030 compared with doing nothing at all.

Greens climate and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP says the new Finkel report on energy storage released today shows Malcolm Turnbull’s war on renewables is built on lies.

Mr Bandt said the report also highlights the need for the Greens’ policy of a national plan for energy storage, including a storage target and investment in the export opportunities of solar fuels.

Williamtown contamination – from bad to worse

Shock news on Sunday that the ‘red zone’, officially recognised as affected by PFAS contamination from RAAF Base Williamtown, has been modified re-inforces the urgent need for investigation of buy-back options for local residents.

Local residents were doornocked and told at a meeting, called at very short notice, to confirm that many more properties are now affected.

Robyn Williams, from Port Stephens Greens said, “This news will be the last straw for many residents who have suspected for some time that they may not have been told the full story.

While we are all overjoyed about the postal survey result yesterday, this survey should never have happened in the first place and it was a huge waste of tax payer money.

“There are reports that the marriage equality postal survey came in $20 million under budget, said Senator Janet Rice, the Australian Greens LGBTIQ spokesperson.

“Many LGBTIQ people will remain scarred by the traumatic ordeal the Government has put them through. Mr Turnbull could start making amends by investing this $20 million into mental health services for LGBTIQ people.
