True friends of the ABC secure its future in law

The vast majority of voters believe stable funding should be set in law, new polling commissioned by the Australian Greens shows.

Only nine per cent of voters oppose ABC funding being in law.

In balance of power, the Greens will push for funding to the ABC to be legislated and out of the hands of politicians and the minister of the day.

The poll by Lonergan surveyed 1017 South Australian voters between the 11th and 13th of May 2022.

Greens plan to save our Tassie devil

The Greens have outlined a plan to save the Tasmanian devil and called on the Liberals and Labor to adopt the comprehensive measures required to protect this iconic species. 

Federal funding has been critical to the Tasmanian devil’s survival, but this ended in 2017 despite their recovery from the infectious cancer that decimated their population being far from over.

Greens pledge an Active Transport Network for nipaluna/Hobart

Nipaluna/Hobart will be at the centre of an exciting national trial to roll out more bicycle infrastructure under an $18m fully-costed plan launched by the Greens today. 

In the last power sharing arrangement with the Gillard Labor Government the Greens negotiated an historic $80m national bike path fund. This included a “Bike Blackspot” app and campaign where cyclists can log blackspot in existing bike paths, which generates an email and report to the Minister for Infrastructure, and contributes to a real time map of all Blackspots in Australia.

Greens back call for increased access to safe and compassionate abortion

The Australian Greens have proudly backed a statement by Children by Choice in support of reproductive rights and access to legal, safe and timely abortion for all Australians.

All members of the federal party room have also individually signed the pledge.

The Greens say confirmation in the Reef Snapshot: Summer 2021-22 of the sixth mass coral bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef lays bare the Morrison Government’s near-decade of failure on climate action.  

The Snapshot confirms the Reef has suffered the fourth mass bleaching event since 2016, and the first in La Nina conditions, with 91% of surveyed areas showing signs of bleaching.

Leaders' Debate farce prompts Greens move for Independent Debates Commission

The Australian Greens will move in the next parliament to establish an Independent Debates Commission to oversee live television election debates, with last night's leaders' debate once again proving to be a farce.

Greens spokesperson for media and communications Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said:

"Last night's debate was woeful and a disservice to voters.

"Those of us who suffered through it watched two grown men - so-called leaders - shouting at each other, interrupting, smirking and aggressively talking over the top of others including the female moderator.
