Today, Greens Leader Christine Milne proudly attended the launch of the book In Fred's Footsteps: 20 Years of Restoring Sight at Parliament House.
Christine met with Fred's wife, Gabi and family, Cam, Jane and Anna-Louise to celebrate the achievements of the Foundation which has restored vision to over 1 million of the world's 39 million blind people. She heard the wonderful stories told by Foundation CEO Brian Doolan of the reactions of patients and their loved ones as the eye-patch is lifted off and they can see again.
The Greens leader also met with the Fessehaie and Hadas Abraham who were instrumental in establishing a Fred Hollows operating centre in Eritrea to perform ophthalmological surgery.
The Greens salute the wonderful work the Fred Hollows foundation has done over the past 20 years right around the world and particularly in its devotion to eradicating blindness in Australia's own Aboriginal communities since Fred first visited in 1968.
