The Australian Greens today called on Prime Minister Tony Abbott to rule out any payouts from the public purse to prop up the Tasmanian Liberals' reckless, self-interested obsession with the failed Tamar Valley pulp mill.
"Everyone who drank from the poisoned chalice that is the corrupt Tamar Valley pulp mill debacle has paid the price and I'd suggest Tony Abbott heed that advice," said Senator Peter Whish-Wilson.
"This project is not financially viable and would return our community to conflict and a failed business model.
"Will Hodgman's Canberra outing, attempting to sponge off the Australian taxpayer for his pulp mill mates, is nothing but an electioneering stunt.
"Even tax breaks are a loss and cost to taxpayers and the public purse.
"The Liberals need to come up with a better vision for Tasmania than their obsession with the divisive Tamar Valley pulp mill proposal.
"The Liberal's obsession with this Pulp Mill project can only relate to propping up their failed plantation forestry MIS policy, but it's idiocy to throw good money after bad," Senator Whish-Wilson concluded.
