Labor must rule out $5 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility going to fossil fuel projects

The Australian Greens are calling on Labor to rule out funding fossil fuel projects from the $5 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility.

Qld Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, said:

“While Labor is putting aside a fifth of the fund for tourism, it hasn’t ruled out the other $4 billion of taxpayer money going to fossil fuel projects.

Bring on a marriage equality vote in the parliament: Greens

The Australian Greens are calling on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to grant LNP members a free parliamentary vote on marriage equality if he is returned to government, rather than conducting a costly and divisive plebiscite.

"Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's comments today would give some Australians the inkling that we could have marriage equality realised by the end of the year - but we can do it without spending $160 million and sending people straight back to the polls after a marathon election campaign," Greens marriage equality spokesperson Senator Robert Simms said.

Labor’s Reef policy fails on coral bleaching, just as the Coalition’s does

Labor's Great Barrier Reef water quality policy announced today fails to deal with the real cause of coral bleaching - the mining and burning of coal - does not provide enough funding, and dodges the tough issues like a cap on water pollution.

Scientists have today reported that coral bleaching has killed more than one third of coral reefs in the central and northern regions of the Great Barrier Reef.
