The win for Federal funding into public transport in Western Australia belongs to the fearless campaigners against the Roe 8 project, who literally put their liberty at risk to save the Beeliar Wetlands from being smothered in concrete.

Greens Senator for WA Scott Ludlam said if it weren’t for the dedicated crew who turned up every day to fight the Barnett Government’s reckless road to nowhere the Federal Government would be pouring money into another road and not public transport in WA this Budget.

The Greens say the Turnbull government’s refusal to consider a night-time curfew for the proposed Western Sydney Airport adds insult to injury for Western Sydney residents. 
 
“This airport is a dud deal for Western Sydney residents. The fact that the Turnbull government is refusing to consider a night-time curfew adds insult to injury,” Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon said.
 
“Sydney Airport has a curfew between 11pm and 6am, why don’t Western Sydney residents deserve at least the same consideration?

Senate calls for federal investment for people who ride bikes

The Senate has supported a Greens motion acknowledging the importance of bike riding for millions of Australians and calling on the federal government to invest in better cycling infrastructure.

“Australians deserve the freedom to ride safely whenever they want,” said the Australian Greens transport and infrastructure spokesperson Senator Janet Rice.

“We’ve seen too many instances of people hit while riding, most of which could have been prevented with proper cycling infrastructure.”

WA election another nail in coffin for toll road agenda

The WA election result represents an overwhelming victory for communities standing up against toll road agendas, say the Greens.

"Toll roads are now the grim reaper for governments around the country," said the Australian Greens transport and infrastructure spokesperson Senator Janet Rice.

"We can now add Roe 8 to the growing list of absurd private toll road plans that have undone governments, including the failed East West Link in Victoria.
