Schools & Education

The Australian Greens know that a strong public education system is the key to investing in the next generation and our capacity to build a fair, successful, and cohesive society. Australia is long overdue for a multi-billion dollar injection into our education system. We need an additional $7 billion investment to be in the middle of the OECD rankings for  public investment in schools. Differences in educational outcomes should not be the result of differences in wealth, possessions, background or circumstances.

We also want to see an additional funding for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education including the teaching of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages that are at risk of disappearing, as well as boosting support for Asian languages, science and music in schools.  We recognise that teaching is a profession essential to our community and should be valued highly and remunerated accordingly.
