Gov must strip Wilson Security of contracts

Wilson Security should be stripped of their contracts for the offshore detention camps on Manus Island and Nauru after its poor corporate governance practices were revealed in the Panama Papers leak, the Australian Greens have said.

"Wilson Security should be stripped of their contracts and the government should get on with closing the Manus and Nauru camps," the Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

The Australian Greens have called on the Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to rule out sending any children currently in Australia back to Nauru.

"Peter Dutton's sleight of hand and his willingness to use children as political pawns is deplorable," the Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

The reported tensions within the Manus Island detention camp, resulting from centre meetings where plans for forced segregation and mass deportations were outlined, need to be addressed by the Australian Government, the Australian Greens have said.

PBO shows Greens’ immigration policy saves $8b

The Australian Greens will go to the election with a policy of closing down the detention camps on Manus Island and Nauru and holding people in community detention on the mainland while their claims for protection are assessed in Australia.

The Parliamentary Budget Office has shown that this policy would save $2.9233 billion over the forward estimates and $8.4745 billion over the next ten years.

"The government is spending billions of dollars on Nauru and Manus Island and they have no exit strategy," Senator Hanson-Young said.

Government’s lack of exit strategy for Manus Island alarming: Greens

Following comments from the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea relating to the burdensome nature of the Manus Island detention centre and the need for it to be closed, the Australian Greens have called for the centre to be shut down.

"It's alarming that the government has no Exit Strategy when it comes to Manus Island and Nauru," the Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

"Clearly Prime Minister O'Neill is sick of his country being used by the Liberal Government in this way and it's time to shut the Manus Island camp down.
