Training of Migration Agents
QUESTION NUMBER 330 - IMMIGRATION AND CITIZENSHIP PORTFOLIO ADDITIONAL ESTIMATES HEARING FEBRUARY 2011
Senator Hanson-Young asked in writing on 13 February 2011:
What is the status of training migration agents for the new assessment process that starts in March to ensure fair, transparent and equitable assessment processes?
Prior to the implementation of the new Protection Obligation Determination and Independent Protection Assessment process, IAAAS providers were consulted on a preferred processing model and on the shaping of key documents that would form part of the new assessment process. Since the Department purchases professional and independent immigration advice and application assistance from the contracted IAAAS providers, it is the IAAAS providers who are contractually responsible for managing training of their registered migration agents within the Department's service delivery expectations, as communicated to them from time to time by the Department.
