Record numbers of Australians are taking advantage of solar energy but threats to Australia's Renewable Energy Target could throw that off track.
Research by the Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics shows that solar power is on target to becoming our cheapest source of energy by 2030, and the latest research from the Solar Energy Council shows low and middle income earners in the suburbs and the bush are leading the charge to take up more solar.
"Alarming calls from the usual vested interests to lower or scrap our Renewable Energy Target ignores how much it benefits the community and the environment. Investing in renewable energy helps household power bills, brings wholesale power prices down, creates local jobs in manufacturing and installation, and transitions us away from the carbon intensive economy that drives global warming.
"Far from watering down the RET, now is the time to set our sights on 100% renewable energy, with a target of at least 50% by 2030.
"A strong Renewable Energy Target would provide incentives for big businesses to make solar even cheaper. That would create jobs and more savings for everyone."
