The Australian Greens today put their support behind the calls by the Disability Alliance to address the needs of people with a disability.
The Disability Alliance are calling for implementation of the recommendations of the bipartisan Senate Report on the Funding and Operation of the Commonwealth State/Territory Disability Agreement (CSTDA), a 20% increase in Commonwealth funding, and guaranteed full annual indexation.
"The Senate report made clear that significant changes are needed to the Agreement. The Committee identified whole-of-life planning, specialised assessment teams, indexation, portability and advocacy as key areas. And, most importantly, the need for more money," said Senator Siewert today.
"There is an urgent need to commit more resources to tackle growing unmet need in disability support services."
"People with disabilities and their carers are some of the most disadvantaged in our community. The Greens have been outspoken advocates about the need to increase funding for people with a disability and carers for a long time," said Senator Siewert.
"The major parties need to adopt the Senate committee recommendations and ensure that the next CSTDA delivers real changes for people living with disabilities."
