Swift parrot absurdity

Greens Leader Bob Brown has welcomed Premier Bartlett's intention to create the Bay of Fires National Park as a boon for northeast Tasmania.

However, the Bartlett government's plan to grow an extra 500 hectares of breeding-season foraging habitat for swift parrots while logging an equal or greater amount of the bird's prime nesting sites is absurd.

"The Premier should also declare the 10,000 hectare Wielangta forest a National Park," Senator Brown said.
