Kevin Rudd's campaign against strong action on climate change helped fuel the Copenhagen collapse, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.

"From Copenhagen it is loud and clear that the nations most threatened by climate change, including pacific island countries and other developing nations, will not accept this agreement for failure," Senator Brown said.

"Mr Rudd should now negotiate with the Greens so his Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) is reset to keep warming at no more than 1.5 degrees not the 4 degrees the current bills allow. This requires at least a 40% cut in Australia's emissions by 2020.

"Then he will go to future negotiations in Bonn and Mexico with a strong leadership position," Senator Brown said.
