Gunns fails to announce pulpmill partner

Gunns' failure to announce a pulpmill partner, as promised in April, shows yet again that no one is willing to sign an agreement.

"In April Gunns announced that it would ‘provide a further market update when the terms of the agreement are finalised, which is expected to be in June 2009.' Obviously they have failed to reach an agreement with any potential investment partner," said Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown.

"Moreover Gunns' CEO John Gay said that '....by the end of June, we would expect to have a memorandum of understanding commence with one player.' (The Australian 16th April 2009.)

"Last week's strongly pro-pulpmill announcement by Federal Industry Minister Kim Carr also indicates Gunns cannot get the finance for the mill without the assistance of the willing Rudd government.

"You can bet taxpayers' money is being put on the line, in a desperate effort to get the mill project out of its difficulties," Senator Brown said.
