The snap senate inquiry into the environmental breaches at the Perth Freight Link site heard evidence from numerous witnesses reporting that breaches of the environmental conditions are happening on a daily basis.
"The evidence is now overwhelming, and any remaining doubt would surely have been swept aside by what we heard today. The workforce and residents have been exposed to asbestos fibres, endangered species have been run over by earthmoving equipment and the measures taken to protect them have been token or lacking entirely," Australian Greens Co-Deputy Leader and Senator for WA Scott Ludlam said today.
"Federal bureaucrats again failed to provide any evidence that the appropriate surveys were completed prior to works commencing.
"The committee heard that issues have been raised with WorkSafe WA, the WA Health department, Main Roads WA, the WA Minister for the Environment, the WA Minister for Health, and the Environmental Protection Authority of WA, none of whom bothered to give evidence to the committee.
"It's impossible to reach any other conclusion that continuing work on Roe 8 is illegal and should be stopped immediately," Senator Ludlam said.
